Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg Wineries

There are a plethora of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg wineries to choose to visit when you are visiting the Smoky Mountain area. Each of the wineries offers a variety of wines to enjoy – no matter if you like sweet, semi-sweet, bubbly, or dry.

Eagle Springs Winery is located near the 407 exit near the interstate. You’ve probably seen it if you travel to the area often enough. It is the cabin up on the hill while you exit I-40. They specialize in honey and fruit wines – doesn’t get any sweeter than that! Their honey wine all starts with a blend of clover, alfalfa, and wildflower kinds of honey that are mixed with water and fermented into wine. Once the wine is finished, small batches are separated out and they are flavored or blended with other fruits, wine, or juice. There is literally a flavor to satisfy everyone. So next time you are heading to the Great Smoky Mountains, be sure to stop in for free limited tastings.

While shopping in Sevierville, be sure to stop by Hillside Winery on Collier Drive. They specialize in Italian style and bubbly wines. This is also where you can pick up a bottle of Black and Blue wine. One sip will taste like blueberries and then the next sip will taste like blackberries. How is that for unique! It’s delicious, take it from me! I have a bottle at home right now. They do offer free limited tastings so be sure to stop in and try a sip. They are even open on Sundays and also offer other great products like sausages, cheeses, and jellies. Sounds like the perfect stop for a midday “pick me up!”

Mountain Valley Vineyards has been producing wine since 1991. They are located on the Parkway in Pigeon Forge, past the Titanic Museum.. They mainly focus on making French and German-style wines, but they also make many other great wines like their faved muscadine wine! Good news – they too, offer free samples and a tour of the cellar! Get on by there and taste the sweetness of Mountain Valley wines.

Most everyone that likes to vacation in Pigeon Forge has been to the Apple Barn Restaurant. I know I personally go just for those fritters! If you don’t know what I am talking about, then that is a valid reason to head on over for some delicious food! There is that quote that says “A meal without wine is like a day without sunshine.” You don’t have to worry about that when you visit the Apple Barn. They have the  Apple Barn Winery!  It is located next door to the General Store and Cider Mill, near their two restaurants, bakery, candy, ice cream, and Christmas shops. You could easily spend a few hours touring the grounds. The unique twist on the Apple Barn’s wine is that their wine is hand made right on their property and from the same apples that you see hanging around the grounds! Succulent apples equal delicious wine so you can take it from us – you will not regret stopping by for some free samples. I can almost guarantee you that you won’t walk out the winery door with a bottle to take back home.

Another great place to stop in for some great tasting wine to take back home is Sugarland Cellars in Gatlinburg. All of their wine is based on our Smoky Mountain history and is showcased on their labels. They strive to not let the traditions and stories of the Smokies disappear and they keep them alive with their love for wine-making! You can learn the story behind each wine if you choose to take the tour that they do multiple times daily. I’ve taken it twice and it is worth the time folks! I grew up here and already know most of the stories – however, I learned something both times when I went. So, take the tour! You won’t regret it. Their wines are made from grapes in the Smoky Mountain region from folks that have been farming for generations. My favorite is the Elkmont and Wiley Oakley wines if you want to give those a try! They also have a really nice gift shop if you are looking for the perfect gift to take back home for someone.

The newest addition to the wineries here in town is The Winery at the Old Mill. Located on the corner of the bridge, at the Old Mill Historic District, this new winery has lovely patio seating right along the river. Talk about peaceful! They also offer many kinds of cheese and they do free limited wine tastings daily. So, next time you are in the area, stop on by there, grab some wine, and relax on the patio that offers amazing views of the Great Smoky Mountains and the river below.
